Contracted by the Rare Disease Foundation (Canada) to create a brand for their annual Rare Finds Gala in Vancouver, I developed a new Rare Finds visual identity and the event collateral for a stunning fundraising gala to benefit people in BC with a rare disease. The creative concept was inspired by crystals and gems - true rare finds!
I developed a new event wordmark and tagline to maintain flexibility with the style and vision of that each year's creative direction. Commonplace with large annual galas, this would increase the perceived appearance of freshness year over year and avoid becoming attached to one creative identity.
Creative Vision:
Crystals and gems are some the most complex and beautiful objects in the natural world. Their myriad colours are interestingly brought to life because of impurities in their atomic structure. And their presentation can change depending on reflecting and refracting light. No two crystals or gems are the same. Using crystals, minerals, and gems as inspiration for the Rare Finds Gala could create a beautiful display of colour, light, and experience. Not only does the science behind crystals loosely mirror the complexity of a rare disease, but crystals are also known to empower their environment, which lends itself to the vision of an immersive, sensory event.
We used bright, bold colours and light to showcase the multi-dimensional appearance of crystals. At the event, a similar scheme of colour and light would bring the creative to life. The many varieties of gems and crystals, and their meanings or healing powers, could also be utilized as an added event element. For VIP guests, small crystals were mailed out with the invitation ahead of the event.
